The bank of aloe striata blooming on the border of our olive grove is beautiful. Their bright cheerful orange augurs optimism and assurance that spring is on the way. Whether it is spring as we know it, or spring as only nature knows it, it is a re-birth in any case. The aloe plant is prized also for its soothing and healing qualities. Let us aspire to re-birth, to blossom, soothe, and heal like these aloes, as best and brightly as we can, and to bring our best and brightest to others, to heal ourselves, one another, and the planet. Studies show that even looking at paintings of landscapes is calming, healing, and good for the immune system. Managed a bit of studio time yesterday, reworking this small canvas begun (disastrously) en plein air at Goleta Beach.
