Join award-winning California artist and virtuoso instructor Tim Horn and me in the stunning Santa Ynez Valley for painting en plein aire and relaxing at Rancho La Zaca.

Our painting locations will include mountains, vineyards, beaches, and Rancho La Zaca itself, all set amid the breathtaking backdrop of the Valley with its winding country roads, horses roaming the hills, and possibly an occasional real-life cowboy or film star.
Let me hasten to add that Tim Horn is a star himself, such a good teacher, and also adorable, which makes his classes that much more fun.
We’ll warm up with some still life exercises before venturing further afield for a variety of landscapes. As with all Tim’s workshops, the primary focus will be on capturing that beautiful California light.
Included are four full days of painting with Tim, lunches each day, and three gorgeous gourmet dinners, prepared by the amazing Chef Stephanie Valentine, who is also my co-author on California Cooking and Southern Style. Instruction is geared toward advanced beginners and intermediates working in oil, though other media are welcome.
Our group will be small, and while we trust all will be vaccinated by then, we will take precautions as needed.
Plan to arrive the afternoon of Wednesday, June 23, and join us for dinner and a presentation by Tim that evening. We will then revel in four full painting days June 24-27, and will bid you farewell at the end of the day on Sunday the 27th, with a glass of wine and a toast to your fine, hard work!
We encourage you to extend your stay to explore the area. Perhaps cruise down to Santa Barbara or LA, or up North on the 101 to anywhere and it will be beautiful. (And there are In-and-Out’s along the way, just fyi.) Treat yourself, because honey we have hung out to dry long enough.
